Skilled Independent Visa - Subclass 189
Features
This subclass visa is a Points-tested stream. It allows you to work and live as a permanent resident. The visa requires applicants must have an occupation listed in the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) and must also pass a points-test related to their nominated occupation.
The first step is to submit an expression of interest through SkillSelect. Upon meeting all the requirements, you will be invited to apply for your subclass 189 Skilled-Independent Visa. Applications can be made either inside or outside of Australia, and the visa can be granted regardless of where you are based at that time.
Eligibility for lodging the Skilled Independent Subclass 189 Visa
- Lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) and be invited by the Department
- Achieve at least 65 points on the points test
- Be at least 18 years and old and not older than 44 years old
- Obtain a positive skills assessment in an occupation on the relevant occupation list
- Possess at least Competent English or higher
- Meet the health and character requirements
What does this visa allow you to do?
Upon being granted the visa, you are able to work and live in Australia indefinitely with full work rights. You can access to Australian medicare services and benefits. As a permanent resident, you can sponsor eligible family members to migrate to Australia as well. This visa is a pathway to your Australian citizenship.
